Word for word with the voiceover, so you can search, copy and read at your own pace.

1Pair the reader, turn on tips

This store takes cards through Fiserv, on a Clover Compact reader. First, go to Payment Settings, then Readers, and add the reader. Click Add Reader. The list shows devices on your merchant account that aren’t paired yet; no pairing code is needed. If you can’t tell them apart, check the serial number on the back of the reader. Pick one, give it a name such as Front desk reader, and click Add. At checkout, the front desk picks the reader by this name. Below, you can have a receipt print automatically after each card payment: none, one copy or two. A failed print never affects the payment. Then, in Tips & more, turn on Enable reader tipping. The reader shows the first three percentages, plus Custom and No tip.

2Checkout: start the reader

The service is done. Click Mike’s card, then Checkout in the details. The tip defaults to Guest picks on the reader. The front desk doesn’t have to ask; the guest picks it on the reader. Click Card. The panel already has Front desk reader selected, and it’s online. Click Start reader · $70.00. Only the $70 service amount is sent now; the tip waits for the guest to choose on the reader.

3On the reader: tip, card, receipt

The checkout window says Ask the customer to tap on Front desk reader. Turn the reader toward the guest. The reader asks for a tip first, with the amounts worked out in brackets. The guest taps 18%, then the green arrow at the top right. Then they can insert, tap or swipe the card. No signature is needed. If the store has a card surcharge, this screen adds a line with the credit card amount. The surcharge is on the service only, and debit cards aren’t charged it. The reader shows Processing, then Approved. The reader prints the receipt by itself, and the checkout window jumps to the success screen: service and tip are both collected. The Order# on the receipt is this sale’s order ID in CardPointe. You’ll use it later to match records on the CardPointe website.

Stores, clients and amounts in the tutorials are demo data. Some features need a particular plan or must be turned on for your store; the tutorial says so when it comes up. Didn’t find an answer? See the FAQ · contact us

4When the card doesn’t go through

If the card is declined, the reader shows Declined and checkout says: Card declined. Try another card or another payment method. Nothing was charged; try again with another card. If the guest changes their mind, press the red key on the reader, or click Cancel card payment here. Note that the cancel goes to the reader. If the guest already tapped, the reader’s result stands, and they may have been charged. When the cancel works, you’ll see: Cancelled on the reader. No charge was made. One more case: the connection drops and the result isn’t confirmed. Kuee warns that the card may have been charged and reconciles it automatically. Don’t charge again; check the transaction list a little later.

5Keyed cards and saved cards

With no reader, or a reader that’s acting up, switch to Manual card entry. The card fields come from Fiserv, so Kuee never sees the full card number. Keyed cards always need the Billing ZIP code. The reader can’t ask for a tip here, so if the guest tips, record it as a cash tip at the desk. Back on Reader, you can also tick Save this card for future no-show fees / membership renewals. With the guest’s consent, future no-show fees and membership renewals are charged to this card. Next time, a guest with a saved card gets a Saved card tab at checkout. Once they agree in person, it’s charged without tapping again.

6Refunds: void today, partial from tomorrow

Refunds are done in Order Management. Open Mike’s order and click Refund. Note this Fiserv hint: on the day of the sale it hasn’t settled yet, so it can only be voided in full. Partial refunds wait until after settlement, usually the next day. To refund today, use the full amount. Pick a reason and click Confirm Refund. Refunds don’t need the reader; the money goes back to the guest’s card. The order turns Refunded. From the next day on, you can refund just part of it, and one order can be refunded in several steps.

7Find the sale in CardPointe

Fiserv’s transaction records live on the CardPointe website. Sign in with the store’s account and click Reporting. Transactions lists every card sale from the past year, and you can filter by date, amount or status. Find Mike’s sale by date and amount, and click the transaction number to open it. The Order ID here matches the Order# on the receipt exactly, so it’s the same sale. You can also see the auth code, the last four digits, and how the reader read the card. Refunds and voids show up here too; the Method column says Refund or Void Sale.

8Daily deposits

Click Funding to see what was deposited into the store’s bank account, day by day. On a day with more refunds than sales, the deposit shows as a negative amount. That covers Fiserv card payments end to end: setting up the reader, taking payment, handling failures, refunds, and matching records in CardPointe.
